Workflowy is easily one of my favorite #productivity apps. I’ve been using it for years for work and personal stuff and it fits my brain.
It’s great for work as a place to keep, for example, a list of causes of action, together with their elements and defenses. It’s also where I keep the cases I most commonly cite, with links to periodically make sure they’re still good law. Personal uses for Workflowy include everything from shopping lists to draft blog posts and to-watch/to-read lists.
There are many similar tools but everything else seems too bloated or complex or targeted at project managers. I don’t want to be a project manager — I just want to manage projects. Or organize. Or list. Or write.
Somehow, despite being a daily user, I missed the addition of optional paragraph functionality. This makes the process of going from idea to outline to draft even easier.
One thing you learn using Microsoft Word for most things at work is that you never, ever draft directly in Word. The same goes for using the web interface of your preferred blogging tool. These things crash. Plenty of people use Google Docs for drafting stuff, but even that seems too bloated for me these days.
I’m a lawyer, so there’s a level of factual detail that does eventually require me to go “offline” and finish my work in Word, to preserve confidentiality and attorney-client privilege and other ethical obligations.
But Workflowy has never crashed on me, in the browser or in the app itself, and having a safe starting point to develop stuff in is great.

It both is and is not the movie you think it is, and both in the best way.
Awful family places burden of their livelihood on daughter for her entire life and finally decides to let her be her own kid as she leaves for college.
It was good but it was kind of missing that one show stopping, jaw dropping song that the third act of any movie in this vein kind of demands.
It’s worth a watch for the chemistry between the sisters - you don’t see a lot of effective portrayals of sisterhood in action movies - and David Harbour is a lot of fun.
Edit: the pig scene was totally unnecessary and gross.
A lot of people love this movie for the same reasons a lot of people hate this movie. It simultaneously shamelessly indulges in the same clichés and tropes that it’s constantly subverting. A lot of people just want it to pick whether it’s going to shamelessly indulge or it’s going to subvert but I think what makes it so much fun and so unique is that it does both.
The non sequitur implementation of the ending cost half a star but the film is visually stunning and narratively bold. I can’t say what movies clearly took inspiration from it without giving it away, but you’ll probably know right away after you watch it.
Well you should all watch it once. Watching it alone was disorientating and left me wishing I had someone to share the experience with but it was a hell of ride. Go in blind and don’t ask of it any more than it is.
I try to be stingy with 5 stars but this movie deserves it. The writing, direction, acting and SOUND DESIGN are as good as the first and in some areas even better.
The main flaw that bugged me was SPOILER ALERT:
The day one flashback was really only there to remind us who JK was on the first one and introduce us to Cillian and his kid. One or two more flashbacks throughout the story may have balanced it a bit. I wouldn’t want anything predictable like showing one of Emmit’s family members dying, I actually think not seeing that stuff puts us in his mindset: it’s hard for him to think about but it’s all he thinks about.
I thought the conclusion was perfect, with the children both growing into their dad’s shoes, although it’s worth nothing that mom is consistently as badass and brave as dad. But when you lose someone you love you often want to live up to them somehow because it feels like they’re still there with you when you embody their best qualities. So I get it.
Yes it’s disturbing but there’s nothing supernatural about it.
It’s worth a watch despite the lame performance of the male lead. Henricksen and Paxton are wonderful, and Bigelow’s makes the thing a visually classic and novel experience at the same time.
These are all things I have seen happening to Oder folks. It’s a sad sad movie whose true horror is the inevitability that we may all face one or more of these deep indignities if we are lucky enough to grow old.
The star power is impressive, with Michelle Yeoh and Chris Evans and Cillian Murphy and Rose Byrne. The story is Event Horizon light and not one of Boyle’s best by a long short but it’s a beautifully shot film.
